The Explorers Series: Emily Erickson
Waimea Bay, along Oahu’s fabled North Shore, is one of the most famous beaches in the world. It’s also the birthplace of big-wave surfing, renowned for the 30-plus foot waves that pummel it in the late fall and winter. Some of the sport's most iconic big-wave competitions have been held there. But for all its history and lore, there’s never been a contest there just for women. Emily Erickson, one of the most talented and fearless female big wave surfers in the world, is part of a group of women working to change that. Read more about her story here.
