If you’re wondering what kind of warbler is flitting around your feeder, or what sort of hummingbird is sipping nectar from your window boxes, you can now consult your iPhone. Green Mountain Digital has just re-launched its award-winning Audubon Birds App for iOS, now optimized for iPhone 5. Audubon Birds – A Field Guide to North American Birds has helped users identify their bird sightings, but now you can also geo-tag your finds, upload photos, take field notes, and share them with the community.

The app features 820 bird species found in the United States and Canada with in-depth descriptions, including range maps, information on habitat and behavior, and over 3,200 high-quality photographs and eight-plus hours of bird songs and calls. In addition to marking sightings, the platform lets users make life lists, follow friend’s postings, tag favorites, add comments, and share to Facebook.

“Integrating NatureShare allows users to connect and interact with other birders like never before,” said David Roberts, CEO of NatureShare. “Now you can make sightings, comment on your friend’s postings, and survey birding activity wherever you are in real time.”

David Yarnold, President of the National Audubon Society agrees. “We are excited about the new features that will make this great app even better. NatureShare aligns with our mission to protect birds and their habitats. We’re using the latest technology to motivate people to experience and appreciate birds in the wild.”
