HI-DEF, IN HAND
The V1253 is a fine still camera, thanks to 23 scene modes that match almost any scenario imaginable, plus a macro mode that can focus as close as two inches. But with its ability to capture HD-quality videos, and in such a minuscule package, this may be the first nail in the coffin of the dedicated video camera. It’s certainly the smallest HD cam we’ve tested. Sure, you won’t be entering Sundance with it, but the built-in stereo mikes, combined with a sharp lens and 12-meg sensor, allowed us to capture clear video with surprisingly accurate sound. Viewing the results on an HDTV, though, requires shelling out for an optional HD dock. 12MP; kodak.com
