Take that joyous first step into your future as a digital photographer. Designed to help you break through technical barriers and launch you into a new realm of creating great photographs, this workshop covers the technical side of resolution, downloading and re-sizing images, file management and archiving, and output/printing sources. Under Rick’s guidance, participants explore shutter speeds, apertures, and shooting modes. By the week’s end, everyone will be using the camera in manual mode with ease.

Rick shares tips and techniques about composition, lighting, lenses, and creativity that help participants see the world with new eyes and capture images with impact. He creates an atmosphere in which learning the technical processes of digital photography is fun, and playful expression is encouraged. Field trips around beautiful Santa Fe and daily assignments encourage the deepening of your digital photography skills.

RICK ALLRED jump-started his digital career in 1996 when he helped launch the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops digital program. After a five-year span as head of the photography department at the Hui No’Eau Visual Art Center in Maui, he returned to the Land of Enchantment. Now the Digital Lab Manager for the Workshops, Rick teaches Adobe Photoshop and digital photography while also pursuing his creative projects as a freelance photographer, artist, and educator.

Combining his knowledge of traditional photography and digital imaging, Rick expresses his creative vision through fine-art photography and portraiture. He is a patient and generous instructor, providing an environment where people can tackle technology with ease and break through creative boundaries. Rick’s web site is .
