It’s the holy grail for product designers: to create a glove that will keep you warm and dry in the nastiest conditions but still allow you to do things like zip up your jacket or tear into a Snickers bar.
Over the past few years, Arc’ teryx has come closer than anybody to striking the perfect balance between warmth and dexterity, and their new Lithic glove significantly raises the bar. It’s the toastiest, toughest, and most impressively tailored glove we’ve ever seen.
The entire glove is seam-taped like a jacket—a really, really tough jacket. To increase durability, Arc’ teryx chose to wrap the glove in a supple but thick Gore-tex fabric typically used in motorcycle apparel. And instead of the usual leather palm for added grip, you’ll find thin reinforcements made out of sticky, laminated TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane), which beef up protection from moisture and abrasion while enhancing grip.
Even the cuff is high-tech. Just like a sleeping bag has an adjustable collar with layers of insulation around your face, the Lithic glove’s closure is built with mini baffles that close around your wrist to keep heat from escaping. Available this fall.
