Outdoor Retailer is filled with cool new winter running gear. But of all the spiked shoes, fancy jackets, and windproof briefs we’ve seen, we're most excited by New Balance’s Winter 110, a crappy-conditions version of the brand's popular, barefoot-inspired . New Balance gave the Winter 110 a lightweight, waterproof softshell upper and topped it with a flexible, water-resistant gaiter. The result is a shoe that keeps the elements out and still lets your feet breathe a bit. Underfoot, the Winter 110 is similar to its fair-weather cousin, with minimal cushioning, with a low-profile (4mm drop), and a sticky outsole that looks like it will shed snow, slush, and muck extremely well. As one of our gear editors put it: “It’s the first winter shoe I’ve seen that looks as light and fast as it is weatherproof.” 9.1 ounces for men's size 9.5 and 7 ounces for women's 7. Available in October 2012.
