Rossignol’s S7 wasn’t the first rockered ski to employ both traditional and reverse sidecut, but it certainly was one of the best: a fat ski that was effortless and ridiculously awesome in soft snow, highly capable on hardpack, and as much fun for intermediates as experts. Their new Soul 7 builds on that legacy. To shave 20 percent off the weight and increase stability, Rossi removed all the metal from the ski’s core and replaced it with solid wood. As for that crazy tip: it’s a hollowed-out ABS resin that, in addition to looking cool, reduces the Soul 7’s swing weight and brings the center of the ski’s mass underfoot. All told, the Soul 7 fuses backcountry weight with freeride and freestyle performance. Will it have the same impact on the industry as its predecessor? Hard to say, but we can’t wait to ski it and find out.
