Spectre, the , drops Friday, and while some people might be talking about what car he’s going to drive or what gadgets he’s going to use, we’re most excited about the sunglasses he’s going to wear.
At some point in the film, Mr. Bond dons a pair of Glacier sunglasses made by , the company started by Olympic downhill skiing gold medalist Jean Vuarnet back in 1957. These specs first appeared in the 1980s and quickly became a fashion piece popularized by musicians such as Miles Davis and Mick Jagger. American distribution stopped in the mid 1990s, but the glasses continued to make Hollywood appearances, including on Jeff Bridges’ face in The Big Lebowski and Luke Wilson’s in The Royal Tenenbaums. They were re-launched in the U.S. in the fall of 2014, and have appeared most recently on Jake Gyllenhaal in Everest, and now on Daniel Craig.
The glasses themselves feature polarized mineral glass lenses and leather side pieces designed to block out glaring sun in alpine environments. The original models, like the ones featured in Spectre, have a leather centerpiece over the bridge of the nose. If you look hard enough you can probably find an old pair in a vintage store or you can get a brand new pair on the site.
