The Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion set a Guinness World Record for “the longest distance traveled by a standard production passenger car on a single tank of fuel,” .
The Passat began its trip in Kent, England, heading to the south of France and back. The car made it nearly back to Calais before running out of fuel, traveling a total of 1,526.63 miles without refueling and averaging 74.8 miles per gallon, TreeHugger.com says.
The BlueMotion sports a few aerodynamic advantages, such as a low ride height, stop-start anti-idling, longer gear ratios, and low-rolling resistance tires. All are common options on cars in Europe and Asia, according to TreeHugger.com.
