The light-yet-stable Vapor Flash bridges the gap between an overnighter and a multi-day hauler. At 3,200 cubic inches, this traditional top-loader is just big enough for several days’ worth of gear (one tester even hauled a six-pack in it). But at a waifish three and a half pounds, it was a blessing on faster missions, too. The dual side stash panels are massive—we put poles in one and the tent body in the other—and the spongy back panel wicks away moisture almost as well as mesh. The pack also compresses beautifully, thanks to straps that cinch down from the middle. The removable hipbelt and top-lid fanny pack (with two zippered pockets) worked well for quick evening hikes out of base camp. If it had side access, it’d be perfect. 3.5 lbs;
