THE SELL: A full race-ready ride for less than the cost of most high-end wheels. THE TEST: “Ate up
the road bumps. What a smooth, comfy ride,” wrote one tester. That might be hard to believe about an entry-level aluminum bike, but remember that not only is the Allez shaped and formed for added shock absorption, but the successful geometry is lifted straight from Specialized’s award-winning Tarmac (which tops out at $9,900). Comfort aside, the frame has plenty of pop, and several testers suggested using it for racing. The money saved on carbon went back into a respectable parts pick, including the sturdy Mavic rims, surprisingly responsive SRAMApex drivetrain, and plush Riva saddle. THE VERDICT: You don’t have to blow a small fortune to get a great ride. 20.1 lbs
