Simpson, who won a gold medal in the 1,500 meters at the 2011 World Championships, crossed the finish line with a time of 4:16.28 for 11th place.
“I just thought, there’s no way I’m not going to finish. I’m going to run as hard as I can, and as everyone went by me, I just thought, I’ll get them next week,” she said (in reference to the , which begin September 3rd in Zurich). “I already have more than I deserve. I have two medals at home. I had the opportunity to race here. It didn’t go how I wanted, but at the end, I’m really grateful.”
