American downhill rider Aaron Gwin won the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup after snapping his chain immediately out of the starting gate Sunday in Leogang, Austria, . This wasn’t the first time Gwin encountered mechanical trouble at a competition. At last year’s World Cup, he rode four minutes without a tire, after flattening it 10 seconds into his run.

Watch the two-time World Cup champion ride a pedal-free run for the improbable win.
