Two cousins have been . Caleb Joshua Malboeuf and David Wayne Malboeuf allegedly caused the blaze when they left their campsite for a hike without properly extinguishing their fire. When they returned, the fire had spread out of control, and they were forced to leave their gear and dogs behind. The pair has been charged with five counts including causing timber to burn, leaving a fire unattended, and failing to maintain control of a fire, and face a fine of up to $5,000 or six months imprisonment if convicted. The Wallow fire displaced as many as 10,000 people and burned 840 square miles of forest in Arizona and New Mexico.
