Union Cycliste Internationale officials checked six Tour de France riders’ bikes for hidden motors, on July 23, . The checks came after the cyclists finished Stage 18 in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.

Race leader Chris Froome’s bike was among those inspected. Froome told Cyclingnews he was happy about the checks.

“They’re probably needed, considering all the rumors out there,” Froome said. “I think most of the suspicion is on social media, but they don’t come from nowhere. The technology exists.”
