Skysurfing: Beware Falling Cameramen

Question: If a person skysurfs at 13,000 feet and nobody is there to see it, does it happen at all? Well, for all intents and purposes, no. At October’s Freestyle Skysurfing World Championships over Eloy, Arizona, the rules were such that each of the 18 teams had to include a surfer, who would perform stunts while essentially free-falling with his feet in the straps of a
honeycombed board, and a “camera flyer,” who would videotape his pal’s acrobatics for the land-based judges. And (drum roll, please) the winners were Rob Harris and Joe Jennings of Los Angeles, for the men, and Gaudenzia Martinengo and Jerome Erlich, of Italy and France, respectively, for the women.
