Larry Stevenson, who helped design the modern skateboard, died Sunday at age 81 in Santa Monica, California. Stevenson helped culture. His skateboard company, , designed skateboards influenced by surfboards and helped inject new life into the skateboarding world. He was inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame in 2010. Stevenson suffered from pneumonia and Alzheimer’s in the final months of his life, according to his son.
