Scarpa issued a voluntary recall Monday of its 2014 F1 Evo backcountry ski boot because of a defect with its locking mechanism.
The boot can accidentally switch from ski into walk mode while skiing, . When the boot isn’t locked in ski mode, the cuff has much more flex, which the company notes can cause a skier to lose control and fall.
Last year, ϳԹ awarded the boot for Gear of the Year and Gear of the Show because of its novel locking mechanism, which automatically transitions from a hyper flexy walk mode to a fairly stiff ski mode when clicked into tech bindings.
North American consumers should return the boots to the store where they purchased them for a full refund. Scarpa asks retailers to stop selling the F1 Evo and contact call (866) 998-2895 for a return and refund.
