With an adult obesity rate of 33.8 percent, Mississippi is the fattest state in the nation, according to a study released this month. The eighth annual from the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that , compared to just one state four years ago. Minorities were disproportionately affected, with blacks and Latinos suffering the highest rates of obesity. The report’s authors recommend that lawmakers take action by restoring cuts to nutrition assistance programs and toughening standards for food sold at schools. The fittest state? Colorado, where only 19.8 percent of adults are obese.
