Chaleo Yoovidhya, the man who created the energy drink , died on Saturday in Bangkok, Thailand. Yoovidhya developed the caffeine-rich Red Bull formula while working at a drug company he owned in the 1980s. He later sold the drink to truck drivers in southeast Asia under the Thai name Krathing Daeng, or Red Bull. In 1984, Austrian businessman Dietrich Mateschitz partnered with Yoovidhya and began marketing Red Bull in Europe. According to some estimates, Yoovidhya’s fortune was worth as much as $5 billion. He was between 80 and 90 years old and rarely spoke to the media.
