A federal judge ruled Monday that the Obama administration must complete a review of environmental protections for polar bears under the Endangered Species Act. A Bush-era decision not to regulate greenhouse gases under the ESA was not sufficient, according to Judge Emmett Sullivan. The Endangered Species Act legally binds the government to protect endangered species. Global warming, which scientists increasingly believe is caused by greenhouse-gas emissions, has reduced polar bear habitats. Judge Sullivan rule the government’s failure to limit emissions was illegal, however.
