Santa Fe, NM, January 10, 2005ϳԹ magazine hopes to encourage the community of active travelers to aid those affected by the tsunami by donating to relief funds. As part of this effort, ϳԹ magazine has invited CARE, an international humanitarian organization, to collect donations for tsunami relief at ϳԹ‘s 15th annual Travel Show Chicago.

“Tourism has been an essential component of the economies of many countries hit by the tsunami, and now these communities desperately need our help,” said Cooper Cox, director of ϳԹ Shows and Events. “ϳԹ invited CARE to the Travel Show Chicago as an effective way for travel enthusiasts to reach the millions of victims coping with this tragedy.”

With staff located in many regions where the tsunami struck, CARE was able to respond immediately, conducting damage assessments and dispatching food, purified water, medical supplies, clothing, and temporary shelter that saved many lives.

“By assisting CARE in raising awareness and funds for tsunami victims in South Asia, ϳԹ magazine is helping an untold number people affected by this terrible disaster,” said CARE Central Region Executive Director Heather Simpson. “This is a special opportunity for CARE, because the people who attend the Travel Show Chicago and read ϳԹ magazine are inherently invested in the world and understand the need for urgent emergency relief, as well as long-term re-development programs for the affected areas.
