An estimated 42,000 gallons of oil into the Yellowstone River since Friday, as large debris and raging waters continue to . Authorities believed that fast moving water may have scoured dirt away from a buried Exxon Mobile pipe, allowing debris to hit the structure and cause a leak. On Monday, Exxon Mobil acknowledged that the area affected by the spill immediately downstream. The company has dispatched roughly 125 workers over 241 miles to monitor and clean up oil. Municipalities and irrigation districts have closed off pumps that take water from parts of the river. The incident occurred as authorities consider the larger , which would transport oil along the river as it heads from Canada to the Gulf states.
