Investigators are looking into the on Thanksgiving Day in Grand Teton National Park. An elk-hunting party says the grizzly, one of around 600 in Grand Teton and Yellowstone, charged before they shot it. “The individuals involved had permits to participate in the Elk Reduction Program in Wyoming hunt area 75.” an official park statement said. The death marks the 51st death of the endangered animal in the greater Yellowstone area this year. An elk carcass was found near the scene of the charge, which has led investigators to the conclusion that the bear was likely trying to protect its food cache. About one-third of annual grizzly bear deaths are related to hunting.
