German Jan Hojer finished ahead of Nathaniel Coleman and Adam Ondra in Saturday’s bouldering Word Cup in Vail, Colorado, by the IFSC, sport climbing’s governing body. With his second place, Coleman, an 18-year-old from Utah, vaulted to the top of the overall standings.
On the women’s side, American Megan Mascarenas sent three of the four problems, including two flashes, for the gold medal. Last year’s winner, Akiyo Noguchi of Japan, took second, and Shauna Coxsey of England came in third. Alex Puccio, one of the top contenders, before the qualifying round, taking her out of the competition and the rest of the season.
The World Cup circuit continues in two weeks with bouldering and speed-climbing events in Chongqing, China.
