Loveland Ski Area, 60 miles west of Denver, will open Thursday, making it the first resort in the state to begin ٳ2015–16 ski season, according to . A storm that hit the area last week delivered 17 inches of fresh snow. Lift 1 will be available to the public, giving skiers and snowboarders access to a mile-long run.
Loveland has opened early in the ski season in previous years. As ϳԹǰٱ, it was the first North American resort to begin operations in 2009, on October 7 of that year.
Alan Henceroth, chief operating officer of the Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, located 15 miles south of the Loveland Ski Area, congratulated Loveland on the season’s start in a . He said that Arapahoe would not be far behind. “Our forecast still looks great with, perhaps, sub-freezing temperatures into Thursday,” Henceroth wrote. “Keep your fingers crossed. We will have some good news on opening soon.”
