The three-day cycling race kicked off on August 21 and included three stages: an individual time trial in Breckenridge, a road race from Loveland to Fort Collins, which included a 20-mile climb, and a 1.5-mile circuit race in Golden. 

Armstrong, racing for team Twenty16-Sho-Air, took the yellow jersey in the time trial, according to the Denver Post. Taylor Wiles, racing for DNA Cycling Team, won the road race and was the overall second place finisher. Coryn Rivera, racing for UnitedHealthcare, took the victory in Sunday’s circuit race.

“I'm here to come back and hopefully make the team in Rio,” Armstrong told the Denver Post. “This alone, this race, I have to say has made my comeback worth it. This is historical. I'm so happy and proud to be part of this moment.”
