Spanish ultrarunner Kilian Jornet smashed the Grand Teton’s on Saturday, climbing and descending the 13,770-foot mountain in just 2 hours, 54 minutes. Jornet, 24, summited via Lupine Meadow, covering more than 12 miles with a nearly 7,500-foot vertical gain. The run bettered Bruce Thatcher’s record time, set in 1983, by 12 minutes. The Salomon-sponsored athlete is a three-time champion of both the Skyrunner World Series and the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc. He was also the 2011 winner of the World Championships of Ski Mountaineering and the Western States Endurance Run.
