Father, son, daughter take U.S. titles

Three kayakers with the last name of Jackson at the National Freestyle Kayaking Championships in Cascades, Idaho, on Sunday. Four-time world kayaking champion Eric Jackson won the men’s title; his daughter, Emily, won the women’s title and his son Dane won the junior men’s title and the all-ages canoe and open canoe titles. Dane has so far earned six gold kayaking medals this summer, adding his U.S. titles to the three gold medals at the International Canoe Federation Freestyle Kayak World Championships in Germany last month. First-time national titlist Sage Donnelly, 10, who also paddles for the Team Jackson club, also won the junior women’s K1 title. To win a national title, paddlers needed to compete in at least five of the championship’s events, tallying their best five finishes toward their overall score.
