An autopsy revealed Friday that a Nevada hunter thought to have been killed by a wounded grizzly bear died from a single gunshot wound to the chest, presumably delivered when his hunting partner attempted to defend him. Ty Bell and Steve Stephenson of Winnemucca, Nevada,  while hunting black bear along the Idaho-Montana border. The men were pursuing the wounded bear into a thicket when it charged. As the bear mauled Stephenson, Bell fired several shots, killing both the bear, and, according to an examiner at the Montana State Crime Lab, his hunting partner.
