A hunter accidentally shot his girlfriend on Saturday in eastern Florida after he mistook her for a wild hog. Steven Egan, 52, heard a rustling sound in the bushes and took a shot with his .30-caliber rifle. Instead of a hog, though, the bullet hit his girlfriend Lisa Simmons’ upper legs. Emergency officials airlifted Simmons to a hospital where she underwent surgery. and the local authorities are calling it an accident. “He was very sympathetic that he’d shot his girlfriend,” said Major Steve Clair of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. “I think it was just a violation of one of the cardinal rules of hunting, which is, you never shoot what you don’t see.”
