The news first came from photographer Andre Liohn's Facebook page. According to , Liohn wrote, “Sad news. Tim Hetherington died in Misrata now when covering the front line.”
The New York-based , who co-directed the Oscar nominated film Restrepo, was in Libya on a documentary film assignment. Hetherington won the prestigious World Press Photo of the Year award in 2008. He聽shot the photo and the film Restrepo in Afghanistan while on assignment for Vanity Fair with writer Sebastian Junger. His work communicated the realities of war.聽
His last hints at the situation in Misrata.
“In besieged Libyan city of Misrata. Indiscriminate shelling by Qaddafi forces. No sign of NATO.”
