Ben Saunders hopes to set a new record for trekking solo and unsupported to the North Pole. He plans to depart from Cape Discovery on the north coast of Canada on March 15. He’ll take off on foot with skis, snowshoes, a sled, and a tracking beacon—and plans on no resupply en route. The current record on foot is 41 days and 18 hours with one resupply by plane.
Saunders has attempted this journey twice before, but had had to abort due to ski equipment troubles in 2009 and fuel problems in 2010. You can follow Saunder’s progress .
