David Everett Smith was sentenced to six months in jail last Friday for blowing up an outhouse in a federal recreation area, the reports. Smith has waited for a sentence to be handed down since pleading guilty to felony property destruction more than two months ago.

The 22-year-old, along with three other men, constructed a bomb last summer out of an oxygen tank, acetylene, several Molotov cocktails, and, bafflingly, fire extinguishers. The device was then used to turn an outhouse into toothpicks in the Weston Hills Recreation Area in Wyoming, overseen by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Weston Hills was subsequently by BLM, during an investigation into “the destruction of visitor facilities.”

During the hearing, Smith's lawyer asked the judge not to award the maximum sentence, two to five years in a state penitentiary.  She pointed out that he's since gotten engaged and worked on controlling his anger issues.

The judge waived a prison sentence in favor of time in a county jail, placed Smith on five years of probation, and ordered that he and his co-defendants pay over $25,000 in fines.
