Kelly Guzman, 45, of Denver was expected to be released from the hospital today after being found Sunday following 11 days in Colorado's Arapahoe National Forest with no food, medicine, or shoes, according to . She was treated for frostbite and hypothermia.
Guzman had driven her SUV 70 miles west of Denver, where last Thursday an off-duty officer found the vehicle stuck in a creek. The AOL News report said Guzman had gone for a drive “to go away to clear her head” on June 9 after receiving a citation the day before for driving under the influence of drugs. Guzman was reported to be a user of medical marijuana and to be taking medication for lupus and other medical conditions.
Guzman reportedly stayed in the car for three days before venturing out on foot. An avid outdoorswoman, she has climbed some of Colorado's 14,000-foot peaks and often hiked alone. The lack of food and medication are suspected to have contributed to her reported poor decisions that lead her farther into the woods.
When found on Sunday, Guzman was collapsed, delirious and 30 pounds lighter. The whereabouts of her shoes remains unknown.
