Backcountry Access (BCA) is offering free replacements on its Tracker2 avalanche beacon after multiple malfunctions were reported by the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, according to .
BCA suspects the beacons were reacting to static electricity discharge in the pockets of users.
After the discharge, the beacon would then reboot and freeze. Obviously not ideal if your life is depending on it.
The Jackson Hole beacons were replaced with transceivers containing the new software as well as the anti-static material, which BCA says should solve the problem.
“We have executed what I believe to be a very proactive and responsible corrective action,” Bruce Edgerly, the VP of marketing for BCA told .
