Thor Hushovd took an unexpected win, and overall favorite Cadel Evans moved decisively into second place Tuesday’s of the Tour de France. Hushovd took his second win of the tour after joining a three-man break on the day’s 163-kilometer stage, outsprinting fellow Norwegian Edvald Boassen Hagen to the line. Evans and Alberto Contador stayed with the peloton on the day’s final climb, less than 10 miles from the finish, with Evans building a symbolic five-second gap on Contador by the line. Voeckler, who barely held onto the yellow jersey in Sunday’s stage, again said that he expects to lose the lead by the time the peloton reaches the Champs-Elysees on Sunday. “I kept it by a handful of seconds, but that shows that I’ve hit my ceiling,” he said. Evans now trails Vockler by 1 minute and 45 seconds. Andy Schleck was one of the day’s biggest losers, dropping 48 seconds and moving to fourth in GC, 3:03 off Voeckler’s lead.
