The has put out a report stating that 20 percent of the electricity demand in homes and businesses in the eastern half of the country could be met with wind energy by 2024, reports. But this can only happen if up to $90 billion goes toward putting up wind turbines and an infrastructure of power lines, says the . A lot of this money would have to come from the government.

The amount of wind-generated electricity in the U.S. overall rose 29 percent from January to October 2009. The wind farms that would be part of making this number even bigger would sit off federal waters along the Atlantic Coast and on land in Midwestern states.
