The Kızılot municipality in Turkey's Manavgat district of Antalya has just banned fireworks during the summer to protect loggerhead sea turtles in the area, the reports. The summer is when the turtles breed along the local beach, and the babies are often led astray by the artificial lights from the hotels.

“When loud noise is added to the lights, the turtles' fear increases 10times,” said Mayor Mustafa Keçer. “Since the fireworks scarethe turtles, the hotels in the region will not be allowed to usefireworks during the tourist season.”
