De Rothschild’s Plastiki Ends 8,300-Mile Journey

The Plastiki, a catamaran built out of 12,500 plastic bottles, ended its voyage from San Francisco to Sydney on Monday, .

The boat was the brainchild of European banking heir, David de Rothschild. He's on a mission to raise awareness about waste created by disposable products and out-of-control consumption. The goal? To see “a 75 percent or more reduction in the amount of human made waste heading out to landfill and sea.” Around the time the docked today, 11,245 people had to reduce their waste.
