A Southern California freeway 20 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles was temporarily closed when an adult black bear wandered into the lanes early Sunday morning, according to The 250-pound animal was spotted roaming the Foothill Freeway in Duarte just after midnight, says Lt. Kerry Carter of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Fish and Game Department workers eventually managed to corner the bear in a flood control channel, where they tranquilized it with a dart gun. The animal has since been transported to a remote forest location for release.
