According to official phone records, Kimberly Davis of Koroit, Australia, was texting with seven different people when she struck a cyclist from behind, injuring his spine and nearly paralyzing him. Davis, who—again—used her phone behind the wheel 44 times before putting a man in a spinal cage, had some choice words regarding her role in the incident.
“I just don’t care because I’ve already been through a lot of bullshit and my car is like pretty expensive and now I have to fix it,” Davis two days after the incident. “I’m kind of pissed off that the cyclist has hit the side of my car. I don’t agree that people texting and driving could hit a cyclist. I wasn’t on my phone when I hit the cyclist.”
It should also be noted that although Davis did call for help, she refused to help her victim—who also had a broken toe and severe lacerations on his head and body—and parked her car 100 meters up the road while she waited for assistance.
All of this was recently revealed in Warrnambool Magistrates’ Court, where Davis finally pleaded guilty to dangerous driving in the September incident. She was fined $4,500 and will lose her license for nine months. The wife of the victim, who was present for the April 14 hearing, said she was disappointed that Davis did not lose her license for longer. Most cyclists would probably agree.
