A fifty-one-year-old fitness instructor held an abdominal plank position for 4 hour and 28 minutes on Friday, setting a new Guinness World Record. He held the plank for two minutes longer than the previous record, held by a Chinese police officer.

Tom Hoel, who previously held the title, spent nine months training. “I’ve had no alcohol the last four months, have eaten healthy foods, and focused a lot on getting enough sleep,” .

“I have never pushed myself that far,” Hoel said. “After mentally arguing with myself, I finally asked for the time at 3 hours and 41 minutes. I thought that I was still under three hours and was ready to quit, but when I realized that I had beat my former record and the goal was in sight, I mobilized every resource in my mind and body.”
