Paralympic cycling champion Simon Richardson was seriously injured in a accident while he was on a training ride in Wales on Wednesday morning. Richardson, 44, won two track cycling gold medals at the , and suffered a broken back, pelvis, sternum, and a detached lung in the crash. His condition is “critical but stable.” An unnamed 59-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the collision. Richardson became a paralympic cyclist after he was struck by a car on a ride in 2001, taking away feeling in his left side. Since 2005, he has ridden a bicycle . Richardson’s sponsor Phil Jones says the accident makes the rider’s participation in the 2012 Paralympics unlikely.
