Historian Tom Holzel may have figured out a way to determine once and for all if George Mallory and Andrew Irvine were the first to summit Everest in 1924, . After studying high-res photos of a part of Everest's north face, Holzel believes he has located Irvine's body.
It is believed that Irvine was carrying a Vest Pocket Kodak camera on the day both climbers went missing. If found, it could provide evidence that Mallory and Irvine reached the summit 29 years before Hillary and Norgay.
Holzel plans to mount another search for Irvine's body either this spring or next.
