The 100-mile mountain bike course—back-country roads with some short sections of paved road—meanders through the highaltitude mountains and valleys of Leadville, Colorado. Theentire course is 9,000 feet and climbs to almost 13,000 feet. The race helps raise money for community betterment. Leadville's Legacy Foundation board member John Cirullo said they recently gave 54 graduating high school students (out of a class of 58) $1,000scholarships for higher education.
