Three amputees from three different wars recently bagged the summit of Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa, reports. Between the three men, there was only one human leg; the rest were prosthetic.
“The message we're trying to send back to the USA is no matter whatdisability you have you can be active,” Kirk Bauer, the executivedirector of Disabled Sports USA and a 62-year-old Vietnam vet who lost one of his legs in the war, told the .
The other two climbers are veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq. It took the trio six days to make the summit, camping one night at 19,000 feet, courtesy of a special permit for the disabled.
