The has agreed to hear an appeal brought by the in a previously closed doping case against former Tour de France champion Jan Ullrich. The case, , will force the Swiss Olympic committee to reopen their investigation into Ullrich and any links he has with Operation Puerto, the Spanish doping probe that was officially closed in 2008 but is still under investigation by the UCI. Though Ullrich is German, his racing license is registered with the Swiss cycling federation; the Swiss Olympic committee has said they’re powerless over Ullrich because he retired in 2007. Ullrich won the Tour de France in 1997 and served a six-month ban in 2002 after taking recreational drugs during a “personal crisis.” He was also fired from the T-Mobile team and suspended from the 2006 Tour when he was linked to the Operacion Puerto doping scandal. A DNA test later linked Ulrich to nine bags of blood found in the office of Dr. Eufemiano Fuentes, the Spanish doctor suspected of helping several high-profile riders dope. A second offense against Ulrich would result in a lifetime ban from cycling.
