Cancellara to Race in Time Trial

Will defend gold medal after crash

Defending Olympic gold medalist Fabian Cancellara will race in Wednesday’s time trial after crashing in Saturday’s road race and injuring his right shoulder. The 31-year-old Swiss rider was in the lead group late in the race when he misjudged a turn and crashed into a barrier. Cancellara finished the race but was feared to have have re-broken his right collarbone for the second time this year. The X-rays taken in the athletes’ village proved to be , and Cancellara will ride in pain Wednesday as the World Anti-Doping Agency limits the types of medication he can take. “The mental aspect is important,” said Cancellara. “I have two legs and I can ride.” Great Britain’s Bradley Wiggins, who won both time trials en route to his Tour de France victory this year, and defending time trial World Champion, German Tony Martin, are expected to challenge Cancellara for the gold.
