Prosecutors in Paris have launched a preliminary investigation into several teams who raced in the 2009 Tour de France after finding suspicious medical material, according to the . The teams involved have not been named.
The preliminary investigation, which is required by French law to determine if there is sufficient evidence to conduct a formal investigation, is analyzing syringes and transfusion equipment believed to belong to the teams that were found in waste containers during the race.
The material is being analyzed to determine whether any illegal substances and DNA that could link it to the riders can be found.
